Main Shearing @ Stanley Vale 2016

August rolling around not only signals the end of winter it also means it's time for the main shearing.

Shearing was a family affair with siblings Amanda and Karl shearing alongside their Dad, Phil. Now in his early 60s Phil still does 60 sheep a run so it's clear where Amanda and Karl inherited their talent from!

The family affair continued with both Tim & Dom (pictured below) kept busy keeping up with the 3 shearers. It was exciting to see the results of the infusion of new blood lines into the flock starting to show. Wool cuts were up again despite a  tough season in the New England.

So far about 1/2 of the wool test results are back in and the mature ewes have averaged 16.2um.

With shearing done and dusted for another year, the dams filled by recent rain we're ready for some sunshine to dry the paddocks out and grow some spring feed ready for the arrival of the lambs in the next couple of weeks.
