Vic weekly cattle summary

Throughput declines

Consignments in Victorian saleyards declined 12% week-on-week, to 10,271 head, with reduced throughput recorded at most selling centres.

Numbers at NVLX were steady, at 2,808 head Shepparton was the only major centre to record an increase, up 9%, at 2,500 head Leongatha and Pakenham both declined 23%, to 1,390 head and 907 head, respectively Consignments at Camperdown declined 38%, to 762 head Warrnambool yarded 743 head, back 40% week-on-week Bairnsdale offered 585 head, Colac yarded 308 head and Ballarat consigned 268 head

Young and grown cattle prices ease

Heavy C2 vealer steers to slaughter eased 3¢, averaging 322¢, and the heavy C3 heifers to the same orders slipped 15¢, averaging 321¢ and selling to a top of 357¢/kg.

Heavy C2 yearling feeder steers improved 4¢, averaging 333¢, while the C3 lines to slaughter eased 10¢, averaging 325¢/kg. Heavy and medium C3 yearling trade heifers declined 14¢ and 16¢, respectively, averaging 311¢ and 316¢/kg.

Heavy C3 grown steers to slaughter slipped 18¢, averaging 319¢ and selling to 356¢/kg (or 647¢/kg cwt), and light (0-540kg) D3 grown heifers to the same orders declined 19¢, averaging 266¢/kg. The D2 manufacturing dairy steers (540kg+) lost 25¢, averaging 252¢/kg.

Medium weight E1 dairy cows eased 4¢, averaging 174¢, and the heavy D1 lines declined 11¢, averaging 215¢/kg. Heavy D4 beef cows slipped 17¢, averaging 261¢/kg.
